SummaCare is the name for the health plan network offered by the Summa Health System of Akron, OH. The health system is made up of a network of doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals dedicated to serving the Akron, Ohio and surrounding areas. Unfortunately, SummaCare is not accepting new Medicare at this time due to the results of an audit by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (a governmental regulatory agency).
As of mid-August, 2014, SummaCare was ordered to suspend the acceptance of new Medicare Advantage customers pending the results of an investigation. Be wary of anyone trying to sell you any sort of Medicare supplement under the SummCare name until you hear official news that they are back in the business of providing insurance for seniors.

While SummaCare has a strong reputation within the northern Ohio area, the government audit has complicated their ability in recent months to provide local seniors with Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug coverage. However, in late March of 2015, it was reported that SummaCare should resume their Medicare Advantage enrollment in the near future.
